ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
Maria Majors: Company Director and Founder
Maria has been teaching dance throughout the St. Louis area for almost 25 years. She grew up training under the direction of Deborah, Tracy, and Karen Davenport at Performing Arts Centre, in St. Charles, MO, where she is currently on faculty. She has served as a program consultant for several area dance and arts organizations. Maria was on faculty at COCA (Center of Creative Arts) in St. Louis, MO for 10 years. During that time, she had the opportunity to work with students and families as Tap Program Coordinator, COCAdance Company Associate Director, and Pre-Professional Program Director. Maria is a former performing member of Manhattan Tap and a former member of the St. Louis Tap Festival Board of Directors.
Forrest Gibson: Company Member and Co-Founder
Forrest Gibson has been dancing for 10 years. He trained at Performing Arts Centre in St. Charles, MO where he now teaches tap. He has competed since a young age and has been awarded full scholarships to several conventions. In 2014, he was awarded the title of Mr. Dance St. Louis by Dance Masters of America. He is now a freelance videographer and photographer and is looking forward to combining his love for creating and tap dance in an effort to bring tap dancing back to the forefront of media.
Tommy Wasiuta: Company Member and Co-Founder
Tommy has been tap dancing for 16 years. He is a proud member of the moSTLy TAP Company and St. Louis Big Band. He is on faculty at Renee Johnson’s Dance Studio, DK Dance Productions, and his home studio, Performing Arts Centre. He has participated in several conventions and tap festivals, including Sarah Reich’s Tap Music Project Intensive and the 2017 School at Jacob’s Pillow Tap Program, for which he was awarded a full scholarship. Tommy is currently a sophomore at St. Charles Community College where he is focusing his studies in accounting. His love for tap and performing have inspired him to pursue a professional career in tap dance.
Beginner: These classes are for those that have had little to no previous tap dance experience. If you tapped when you were younger and are looking to get back into the "swing" of things, or if you have never tapped before and want to give it a try, this level is for you!
Intermediate: These classes are for those that have been taking a regular tap class for at least 2-3 years or more. Classes at this level are designed to share exercises and tools that students can incorporate as they continue their training.
